This classic itinerary I designed to increase your game viewing offering you a high chance of spotting the famous Big five (lion, leopards, elephants, buffalo and rhino) while experiencing the beauty of Tanzania’s diverse landscapes, from the baobab studded plains to the floor of an ancient volcanic crater.

Day 1&2: Transfer to Tarangire and Ngorongoro highlands.
Your adventure begins with an early morning drive from Arusha, the gateway city, heading south to Tarangire National Park on day one of the safari by the safari driver from African Vacation Safaris. This park is famous for its wonderful baobab trees and then magnificent herds of elephants, that can be seen in groups up to several hundred, gathering along the permanent Tarangire River. You will spend the day on the game drives, keeping an eye out for lions, giraffes, zebras and then various antelopes. The park’s distinct landscape and then high population make it a unique and unforgettable opening to your safari. After a full day of exploration, you will drive to a lodge or camp located near Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the Karatu region for dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 2 takes you into the stunning Ngorongoro Conservation Area, driving through the scenic highlands before descending into Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is often called the ‘’Eighth Wonder of the world’’ is a massive, unbroken volcanic caldera that acts as a natural enclosure for an incredible concentration of over 25,000 animals. You will spend a full morning game driving on the crater floor, offering perhaps the best chance in Africa to see the endangered Black Rhino, along with the lions, hyenas, hippos and huge numbers of gazelles. A picnic lunch usually takes with on the crater floor before you ascend and head out of the area, driving towards the vast plains of Serengeti. Later you will be served with dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3&4: Exploring Serengeti National Park.
Day 3 takes you into the world-renowned Serengeti National Park, that is known for its ‘’endless plains,’’ (as its name translates from Maasai) and the spectacular Great Wildebeest Migration, upon entering your game drive begins immediately, searching for the wildlife as you make your way to your central Serengeti camp or lodge. Serengeti is an absolute predator paradise, the home to the high concentrations of the lions, cheetahs, and leopards. You will spend the afternoon and the entirety of Day 4 exploring the wonderful Seronera Valley, where the permanent rivers ensure excellent wildlife viewing year-round.
Your time here is dedicated to the thrilling game drives, tracking big cast resting on the famous rocky outcrops (kopjes) and then following the movement of the plains game. Depending on the time of the year, you may encounter parts of the Great Migration that’s millions of wildebeests and zebras in their contrast search for fresh grazing. A full day in the Serengeti is a truly immersive experience, showcasing the size and drama of the African wilderness, culminating in the spectacular sight of Serengeti sunset over the plains. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 5: Departure.
On the final day of the safari, your day will begin with the last early morning game drive in Serengeti. This time is rewarding, as predators are most active that can be better spotted thus giving you a chance for some last minute, exciting sightings.
After a game drive you will enjoy the hearty bush breakfast, later you will be transferred to a local airstrip in Serengeti for a scenic light aircraft flight back to Arusha. This quick flight saves hours of driving and allows you to depart Tanzania in the late afternoon. You will be met at the Arusha airport and transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or to a connecting hotel, concluding your unforgettable 5-day adventure.
