Day 1: Ngorongoro highlands to Serengeti Migration Area.
Onn the first day of your safari, your safari begins with an early departure from your lodge in Ngorongoro highlands or Karatu. Your safari guide from African Vacation Safaris will welcome you and then brief you about the safari. After the briefing you will drive directly west, passing through Ngorongoro conservation Area (NCA) and entering Serengeti National Park through Naabi Hill Gate. The journey is essentially a continuous game drive, as the scenery transitions from Ngorongoro highlands to the vast, flat plains of Serengeti.
Your final destination and camp location (whether in the southern, central or Northern Serengeti) will depend entirely on the confirmed position of the Great Migration herds for your travel dates. Upon arrival at your tented camp or lodge, you will enjoy lunch before heading out for your first extensive afternoon game drive focused on tracking the massive columns of wildebeest and zebra. This first drive provides an immediate immersion into the size and sound of this incredible natural attraction. Later you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 2: Full day tracking the Great Migration in Serengeti National Park.
Today is entirely dedicated to pursuit and observation of the Great Wildebeest Migration. You will spend the full day in the park, carrying a packed picnic lunch to ensure we increase our time near the action. Depending on the month, your focus will be different.
Wet season (January to March): Concentrating on the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains to witness the emotional and dramatic calving season, where over half a million calves are born.
Dry season (July to October): Focusing on the northern region and the Mara River crossings, the most thrilling and perilous segments of the journey.
Your guide will use their tracking expertise to follow the herds, also keeping a sharp lookout for the predators’ lions, cheetahs and hyenas who follow the migrating masses. The sound of millions of hooves and the sight of the endless herds stretching across the horizon makes this unforgettable day. You will return to your camp after sunset for dinner and relaxation then overnight stay.
Day 3: Morning Game drive and Departure.
You will enjoy one last early morning game drive in the area surrounding your camp. The early hours are the best time to spot the predators finishing their hunts and large moving into new grazing areas under the soft light of morning.
After the game drive, you will return to the camp for a final, hearty breakfast and check out. Your guide will then drive you to the nearest light aircraft airstrip in Serengeti. The drive to the airstrip serves as one final short game drive. You will board your scheduled flight back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your onward travel, concluding your three-day migration safari.
