Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park.

On the first day of the safari, your safari begins with an early pick up in Arusha by your safari guide from African Vacation Safaris. He will welcome you and then brief you about the safari. After the briefing you will begin on your journey that takes about 2 to 3hours drive to Tarangire National Park that is famous for its massive herds of the elephants and baobab trees. The park is often at its best during the dry season (June to October) when wildlife congregates along the Tarangire River, but it is spectacular year-round.

Upon arrival, you will immediately begin your first game drive, through the striking landscape dominated by the ancient, monolithic baobab. Tarangire’s rolling hills and sweeping grasslands are home to one of the largest elephant populations in the world, and you are allowed to encounter them, sometimes in groups of hundreds. Besides the elephants, keep an eye out for unique species like Oryx and long necked Gerenuk. You will have a picnic lunch inside park, that offers you more chances for your viewing time, before heading to your tented camp or lodge. Later you will be served with dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Ngorongoro and crater Descent.

On the second day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast you will take a scenic drive from Tarangire National Park towards Ngorongoro Highlands. This journey typically takes about 3 to 4 hours traversing through fertile lands and climbing slopes of Great Rift Valley.

Upon reaching, the NCA Gate, you will proceed directly to Ngorongoro Crater rim and descend approximately 600 meters (2000 feet) to the crater floor. This UNESO World Heritage Site is an intact, massive volcanic caldera with natural enclosure hosting a permanent population of over 25,000 animals. You will spend the entire game drive exploring the short grass plains and alkaline lake, looking for lions, huge buffalo herds, hippos and zebras and among others. Crucially the crater offers the best chance in Tanzania to spot the endangered Black rhino. After the action-packed game drive and a picnic lunch, you will ascend the crater wall in the later afternoon. You will then check into your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for an optional, short guided nature walk in Karatu area, allowing you to appreciate the landscape on foot, or perhaps a visit to a local coffee plantation or Maasai cultural village (optional extra cost).

After checking out you will begin the final scenic drive back to Arusha or directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). You will be dropped off at the airport or your connecting hotel in the afternoon, concluding your memorable and diverse 3-day safari adventure.
