Day 1: Arusha to Ngorongoro Highlands.
On the first day of the safari, your safari guide from African Vacation Safaris will pick you early morning pick up in Arusha, the starting point for Tanzania’s northern safari circuit. Your safari guide will welcome you and then brief you about the safari. After the briefing you will start on your scenic journey of approximately three to four that takes you out of the city and up into the cool, lush Ngorongoro Highlands. The drive offers a beautiful introduction to the region, that offers you panoramic views of the farmlands and the expansive landscapes of the Great rift valley.
Your lodge for your night will be located either on the dramatic crater rim or near by in the charming Karatu area. This positioning is key to ensuring you are ready for an early start the next morning. Upon arrival, you will check in and have lunch. After lunch you will relax, as well taking short then supervised nature walk (depending on your lodge’s location) to stretch your legs and then appreciate the cool, high-altitude air. The lodges on the rim offer spectacular views directly into the caldera, that offers a thrilling main event. Later you will be served with dinner, then relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 2: Crater descent, wildlife spectacle and Departure.
On the last day of the safari this is dedicated entirely to the exploration of the Ngorongoro crater. You will wake up early in the morning and then descend into the caldera, aiming to be on the crater floor during the early morning hours when the predators are most active. This immense, unbroken volcanic enclosure is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, acting as a natural sanctuary for an astonishing concentration of over 25,000 large mammals.
You will spend a prolonged game drive while exploring the different habitats on the crater floor from the alkaline Lake Magadi to the open grasslands. This location is renowned for offering the most reliable opportunity to spot the endangered Black Rhino as the main goal of the day, along with large prides of lions, huge herds of buffaloes, elephants and numerous hippos and hyenas. After enjoying a packed picnic lunch on the crater floor, you will ascend the crater wall in the early afternoon. The return journey to Arusha will begin immediately, thus concluding your safari in the later afternoon or early evening to facilitate your departure from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
